Frequently Asked Questions
How much are the cakes?
Each cake is individually priced according to the size of the cake, and of course the decoration and artwork. These generally vary from $300 - $1200. Novelty cakes can start from $250, wedding cakes from $450, and christening cakes from $200.

What factors will influence the cost of my cake?
As a general rule the cost of a cake depends on how much artistic labour is involved. Therefore, cakes that are a difficult or an unusual shape, or require a lot of fine lace piping or sugar flowers will be more expensive. Using fresh flowers is usually a more cost effective way to dress a wedding cake, giving it a natural and vibrant look.

How will I know If we need dessert portions or coffee portions?
If you are having a 3 course meal, or a cocktail party, coffee portions will be the way to go, however if you are choosing to serve your wedding cake as dessert, then you will need a much larger cake . Coffee portions are usually cut to 1” x 1” x 3” and a dessert portion will be 2” x 1” x 3”.

How can I minimize the cost of a wedding cake without reducing the artwork?
Having a “kitchen cake” can also be done to minimize on cost. Kitchen cakes are plainly iced square slabs which are kept in kitchen, ready to cut, to make up for the portions. For example, for 200 coffee portions, a 4-tiered decorated cake will be more expensive than having a 3-tiered decorated cake for 150 coffee portions. The remaining 50 coffee portions can be compensated in a 9” square kitchen cake.

Can we have more than one flavour for each tier?
Yes, most designs are suitable to have more than one flavour for each tier, at no extra cost.

Are there any hidden costs? Do you deliver?
Once a quote has been drawn up for the cake, a delivery fee will be included (if required). Delivery charges depend on location of the wedding or event. If not, pick up is from Dataran Ukay, Ampang, Selangor.

Can you design something specially for me?
Of course I can! Please provide as much detail as possible – colour scheme, invitations, photographs, ribbon detail, anything at all to give me inspiration!

How much notice do I need to order a cake?
I prefer at least 4 – 6 weeks notice for weddings, but depending on circumstances sometimes I can squeeze in late orders as well. Please allow 2 – 3 weeks notice for novelty cakes.

What are the procedures when ordering a cake?
Once you have locked in a design and quote, a 50% deposit must be placed, by cash, cheque or direct deposit, to secure your order. Then, final payment will be due at least 7 business days, prior to the event. All cakes MUST be fully paid for before they leave my premises.

How do I care for my Miss Shortcakes creation?
Iced cakes in rolled fondant should not be refrigerated as the humidity causes the icing to sweat and droop. The cakes have been specially tested time and time again to withstand being at room temperature for several days. Please leave the cake in a cool spot, preferably air-conditioned, with no direct sunlight. This enables colours to remain fresher and brighter for longer. Once cut, the cakes can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week, and frozen up to 3 months.

Should I come to see you and where are you located?
If you need a special cake designed, yes it is best if you came to see me with pictures and inspiration for your cake. But if you know what you are after, generally, most orders can be placed over the phone or via email. Please contact me to arrange for consultations as these are by appointment only. After hours can also be arranged, as well as the weekend. I am located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
